Each month ADHD Support Australia brings you an expert in an ADHD-related field to empower you with the information you need on your ADHD journey.

Since April 2020 our speaker evenings and events have all been online.

All online speaker evenings are $20 (+ booking fee + GST), unless otherwise advertised.

If you can’t make it to the live event or have only just found us and missed past events you can find recordings on our Patreon members’ site.

Substance Use & Addictions & ADHD with Melanie Roche

July 4 @ 7:00 pm-8:30 pm

Melanie is an accredited EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitising Reprocessing) Therapist and Accredited Mental Health Social Worker, with a Masters in Social Work Counselling (University of NSW). Specialising in working with clients with mental health and complex trauma, Melanie also shares her expertise and knowledge in her University teaching roles.

Identifying as a neurodivergent practitioner herself; Melanie is passionate about helping clients and their families better understand ADHD, and works with them to develop strategies to assist with a client’s presenting needs.

Possessing 18 years in counselling and case management, Melanie now works in her private practice; where she provides training and consulting to other helping professionals, in along with counselling provided to to individuals, families and groups.

In this talk, Melanie will cover:

* What the research says about link between substance use and Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) use & addiction for people with ADHD

* Exploration around why people with ADHD can be susceptible to AOD use/addictive behaviours (from a neurobiological perspective)

* Some case studies of work with clients in my private practice; which will look at some strategies used to help these clients

* Options to assist people, and their family members (e.g resources and support numbers)
